Purina's Cell Physiology Facility applies today's leading scientific methods on cutting-edge issues like nutrients and their role in inflammation. Various cell types representing specific tissues or disease models are grown in this facility and maintained for experiments that allow us to see how nutrients can influence the system.

Members of this facility give their recommendations on how our technology is implemented into specific products to continually improve the Purina pet food range. Focusing on the protein requirements for senior dogs and dogs on weight-loss diets resulted in the development of Purina's Ulti-Pro Enhanced Protein System. We revisited the prevailing thinking concerning the nutritional needs of older dogs and dogs on weight management programmes and showed that they actually needed high protein to help maintain lean body mass during weight loss and as they age. In the past the opposite was thought to be true. But Purina research in the Cell Physiology Facility revealed that certain dogs need more protein, not less, to stay healthy as they mature or lose weight. Ulti-Pro is an example of one of the current technologies now benefiting our consumers' dogs.
